AboutThis activity will resume after the summer holidays - thank you.
A fantastic underground adventure in a disused Lead Mine for the more adventurous family or friends seeing more than a show mine / cave experience! A relatively dry trip, stood more upright, but with tighter sections to give challenge along the way. We take a look at some baby cave formations and the different mining techniques used to extract lead in days gone by whilst squeezing and climbing through the many tunnels - a real feeling of getting lost!!
Please be aware there is a 10 minute steep uphill walk to the mine from the car park. Minimum age of 5yrs old - all under 18s with a parent. Alternative dates may be available so do ask. Why not try our canoeing or abseiling as well.
DUE TO CORONAVIRUS- all participants will need to have their own neck buff or face covering to pull on when being helped by the instructor or passing other members of the public.
Meet and greet by the Peaks and Paddles vehicle. We kit up in helmets, suits, lights welly's etc before walking 15mins up to the mine itself. Briefing before entering the mine where we start gently in a large cavernous space allowing eyes to adjust to the light conditions and begin exploring long forgotten tunnels hand dug by lead miners of old. Passageways become increasingly narrower with some challenges optional, depending on ability. See baby cave formations growing and how lead was extracted by ancient lead miners whilst challenging yourself to squeeze through the labyrinth of tunnels. Where possible this will be a round trip as we reemerge back into daylight. Then its back downhill to change in the car park. Please allow 2hrs 45mins from start to finish.
For a full refund, cancel at least 30 days before the activity is scheduled to start.
Alternate dates may be able to be agreed at no additional cost, but this is not guaranteed.
Should Peaks and Paddles need to cancel for any reason - full refund or alternative date offered.
- Equipment Provided - Helmets / Lights / Belts / Wellys and Suits if pre ordered!
