WE ARE SORRY - THE WEST SHED AND MIDLAND RAILWAY-BUTTERLEY SITE IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE ARE HOPING TO REOPEN EARLY 2021 (TO BE CONFIRMED).
In the mean time, please follow us at Facebook.com/PRCLTWestShed as we create new online activities and ways to explore our collections.
Visit The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust’s 'WEST SHED' to see historic steam locomotives and railway carriages. Learn about our collection through museum displays, films and hands-on activities, and see what's going on in our engineering workshop from the viewing gallery above. Join us for family fun in the school holidays with children’s craft activities on selected days.
Our museum collection includes two powerful 1930s steam locomotives – 46233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’ and 6203 ‘Princess Margaret Rose’; a 1920s Royal Saloon believed to have been used by Winston Churchill in the Second World War; a Dynamometer Car testing vehicle; ex-Butlin’s holiday camp miniature locomotives; British Railways Standard Tank engines, and more.
The WEST SHED is located on the Swanwick Junction museum site of the Midland Railway-Butterley – a working heritage railway. Other attractions on-site include a Victorian railwayman’s Church, Golden Valley Light Railway (narrow gauge), Butterley Park miniature railway, country park and more (opening times of the different attractions vary). Whether you’re a railway enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out with the family, there’s something for you here.
