Straws Bridge Nature Reserve
Avian flu advice
An outbreak of Avian Flu has been confirmed at Straw’s Bridge Local Nature Reserve in West Hallam following the deaths of several wild birds at the site.
The council is asking people to follow important guidelines –
Dog owners - KEEP their pets on a lead.
Keep to the footpaths
Please do NOT feed the birds as this leads to them congregating and the close proximity could escalate the spread of any virus.
Do NOT pick up or touch dead or sick wild birds
Do NOT touch bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings
Known locally as `Swan Lake` this is a beautiful place to walk, bird watch and enjoy the views. There are plenty of different paths to take to vary your visit each time. The nature reserve is accessible from the Nutbrook Trail.
There are a number of smaller nature reserves across Erewash including Trent Meadows in Long Eaton and Pioneer Meadows in Kirk Hallam.
