Peakguide: Compass skills on Stanage Edge

About

Peakguide provides high-quality guided walks from Castleton, Hathersage, Ladybower and Grindleford.

Do you love the outdoors but aren't confident with a map? Try our half-day 'Map-reading for Beginners' at Hathersage. Or perhaps you're ok with basic navigation but want to explore places like Stanage and Bamford Edge and need a full-day 'Navigation and Compass Skills' session ? Maybe you just want to an experienced guide to tell you about the animals, plants and history of the Peak District with an 'Explorer' walk starting from Castleton or Grindleford.

Peakguide is not aimed at those wanting qualifications or strength-sapping SAS training but rather members of the general public who simply want to improve their route-finding skills, knowledge of the countryside and enjoy the outdoors in a relaxing, informal atmosphere. You are guaranteed a high-quality service with Peakguide as the group size is small and the walk can be adapted to the needs of the participants.

‘Map-reading for beginners’ is a half-day session for people who enjoy being in the countryside but have little experience of reading maps. It will help you gain confidence in basic map-reading skills including understanding map symbols, finding out where you're allowed to walk and working out how long your walk should take. Maps are provided for the session.

‘Navigation and Compass Skills’ is a full-day session on the moors where you'll cover map-reading skills, use a compass to take bearings from the map and the landscape, make accurate timings and understand contours. It’s for those who would like to explore newer, more remote areas but know that compass skills are needed for when the mist comes down. Maps and compasses are provided for the day.

Love nature and being outside? Try one of our 'Explorer’ walks - either a half-day easy ramble or a full-day moorland outing.  Let an experienced guide show you the stunning landscape of the Peak District. Why not combine a White Peak and Dark Peak walk to make a perfect weekend introduction to the Peak District? ID guides are provided for the day.

If you have any questions please contact us.
