About

A narrow gauge railway running alongside Rudyard Lake, using the route of the old North Staffordshire Railway. We have a mixture of steam and diesel engines as well as covered carriages from both the old Rudyard Lake Steam Railway and the Isle of Mull Railway.

Trains depart from our operations base at Rudyard Station which has free car parking. The trip runs from Rudyard Station to Hunthouse Wood, alongside Rudyard Lake. There is an intermediate stop at The Dam where you can break your journey to visit the Rudyard Lake visitor centre just a short walk away.

See our website for more details

Book Tickets

Guide Prices

Tickets are purchased on the day prior to the trains departure and are not pre-booked (apart from Santa Specials which are pre-booking only). The railway has a ticket office located on Platform 1 at Rudyard Station and we encourage all visitors to purchase tickets by card from this ticket office. The Ticket Office will open for ticket sales approx 15mins before the next train's departure (unfortunately we cannot offer advanced sales).

You can also board the train at The Dam and Hunthouse Wood and buy tickets from the guard - these tickets are cash only due to poor mobile reception.

There is a one-way system at Rudyard Station to avoid overcrowding and we will keep the platform closed between trains to give departing passengers plenty of space to leave the train. Note the footbridge is only accessible from Platform 1 (and not the Cafe) for departing passengers only. The Cafe can be accessed over the level crossing from the gate behind the signal box. Should you wish to use the cafe whilst waiting for a train, please exit at the end of Platform 2 and not the footbridge and then buy your train tickets from the ticket office.

We are maintaining group segregation on trains and so will seat passengers in their groups in compartments. Frequent cleaning of passenger compartments will take place at various times during the day.

Trains will run hourly on the hour on most running days, but during busy periods trains will depart as soon as full so we can meet demand.

Our toilets are located on Platform 2 for train and cafe customers only, but please note we have reduced capacity due to cleaning requirements.
