This architectural gem is one of Bakewell's best kept secrets. Built during the reign of Henry VIII as a tax collectors cottage the building was expanded during the Elizabethan period as a gentlemans residency. Visitors are invited to explore the buildings beamed rooms with wattle/daub screens, great open fireplaces and atmospheric rooms. From Tudor to Victorian the building and objects tell the story of life in rural and industrial Bakewell. Sir Richard Arkwright housed his millworkers here. There are changing exhibitions and events throughout the year and family friendly FREE activities to enjoy. Your entrance ticket is valid for a year.
