We’ve got artisan markets, retro weekends, open gardens and zip wire experiences around this August Bank Holiday in Derbyshire and the Peak District, so whether you’re after a long and relaxing weekend or wanting to fill your three days of freedom with some action, there’s loads of great things to do in Derbyshire and the Peak District.

Kedleston Hall - Archery Demonstrations and Have a Go with Derby Archery Club

This day includes watching Derby Archery Club on the Great Lawn, and from 1:30pm, you can have a go at flinging some arrows at the target yourself!

Chesterfield Artisan Market

Derbyshire has loads of fantastic locally made products, and Chesterfield’s Artisan Market is a great place to browse the best of what’s on offer. With an emphasis on “local, ethical and original” products, along with completely delicious fresh food stalls, this is the ultimate ‘Made in Derbyshire’ day out!

Whilst you’re in Chesterfield, why not also visit the town’s famous Crooked Spire and Chesterfield Museum, whose main exhibition is based around the iconic church.

Longshaw, Burbage and the Eastern Moors - Tyrolean Zip Wire Experience, Climbing and Abseiling 

Ever wanted to whizz over Bolehill quarry on a zip wire…? Well, this is your chance. This day out includes not only the zip wire, but also abseiling and climbing… if you wanted to give a new activity a try this August Bank Holiday Weekend, this could be just the thing!

This event is the day after the bank holiday, but for those of you luckily enough to not be working then, it would make for a great adventure.

Meeting point is Woodcroft car park at Longshaw.

The Burrows Gardens - Open Garden for NGS

Located in the beautiful Ashbourne countryside, The Burrows is a 5 acre garden with perfectly trimmed lawns, full of exotic and rare plants. There’s all sorts of styles within The Burrows, from traditional English to Italian and even Cornish - this is a garden that shouldn’t be missed!

If you want a add bit of challenge into your August Bank Holiday, why not join in on Longshaw’s organised 10K run? You’ll be surrounded with all the natural beauty of the Peak District AND you’ll even have something to brag about when you get back to work!

1950s Bank Holiday Weekend at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

If you are a lover of vintage trains, you won’t want to miss this Bank Holiday Event- Ecclesbourne Valley Railway are putting all of their trains from the 1950s on display for this special weekend event. There’s also a discount for anyone who comes wearing 1950s style clothes!

Peak District Highland Games 

This is the first ever ‘Peak District Highland Games’, which comes with all of the traditional Highland games fun, like the ‘tossing of the caber’.

This event is free with entry, so you’ll also be able to enjoy the animals at Matlock Farm Park too!

Meet the Hulkbuster at the Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife & Falconry Centre 

This Bank Holiday Monday there will be a 7 foot tall superhero robot walking around the Tropical Butterfly House… so if you know someone (big or small) who loves superheroes and/or robots, you might want to share this with them.

You will also get to encounter some of the animals at the centre and discover their superhero-like skills!

This event comes with the price of entry (adults are £11 and children are £10), and there’s free parking too.
