Renishaw Hall & Gardens
10.30am
A visit to Renishaw Hall and Gardens is a fantastic day out, so let’s take you on a Tour of the Hall, Museum Gardens and Vineyard and see why we are referred to as Derbyshire’s hidden gem.
The current owner of Renishaw Hall is Alexandra Sitwell, daughter of the late Sir Reresby and Lady Sitwell. This extraordinary family have lived at Renishaw for over 400 years.
Tour the house to see some of the spectacular collection of art and historical artefacts that have been put together by generations of Sitwells. It is quite literally a treasure trove, of inestimable value to students and art lovers alike.
Treasures include portraits by Sargent Salvatore Rosa and Copley. There are examples of furniture from Chippendale and magnificent tapesteries, murals by Piper and Blue John pottery.
We are 2021 Winners of National GB Wine Awards (for all 4 Renishaw Hall wines), 2021 Trip Advisors Travelers Choice award and our Winner of Garden of the year award from HHA and Christie's 2015
Renishaw is rightly celebrated for the fabulous Italianate gardens. The formal garden was laid out in 1895 by Sir George Sitwell (1860-1943) in the classical Italianate style.
Lady Sitwell and the late Sir Reresby restored much of the garden and enhanced the geometric design, retaining yew hedges, pyramids and antique statues, whilst adding ebullient (and ever widening) mixed borders, rose and clematis gardens and a host of exotic plants, many rarely hardy in this part of the country.

Breedon Cement Works
10am-1pm (lunch included)
Breedon Cement Works in the Hope Valley is pleased to have the opportunity to open its gates to visitors once again with one of the first larger group invitations since the first national lockdown back in Spring 2020.
An iconic landmark in the Hope Valley, Hope Works is a place of many things to many people: a place of employment and opportunities for many generations, a trail blazer in industrial change, achieving Plant Mastery (a performance level rarely achieved), a focal point in the landscape, a benchmark for quarry restoration, an opportunity for biodiversity, a place to come and enjoy hobbies from golf, fishing, sailing, bowls, gymnasium and even a Forest School!
An intrinsic part of the local community and landscape of the Hope Valley, the site and it’s people are faced with ongoing challenges and working hard to reduce its impact on the environment.
On Tuesday 11th October we would like to host a visit for MPDD members from 10:00 until approx. 13:00 (lunch included).
The morning will include a couple of presentations on how cement is made, our role in managing nature’s recovery, a Q & A forum, followed by a visit to the Cement Works Laboratory and Quarry and Works viewing platforms, before returning to our conference room for lunch.
