Derbyshire’s most famous food is the Bakewell Pudding. Accidentally created by a local cook over 150 years ago, today the recipe remains a secret but you can try proper Bakewell Pudding - which is nothing like Bakewell Tart - for yourself at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop in Bakewell, where you can even make one for yourself on a special ‘pudding making experience’!

Cheese-lovers shouldn’t miss a visit to the Peak District village of Hartington, where you can buy cheese from the ‘smallest’ Stilton producer in the world at the Hartington Cheese Shop. Sampling a traditional Derbyshire Oatcake, which is a bit like a savoury pancake, is another must-try foodie experience.
If you want to stock up on the best and freshest ingredients whilst here, there are many fabulous farmers’ markets and farm shops in Derbyshire and the Peak District. Amidst the lively hustle and bustle, you’ll find all sorts of great Derbyshire foods and Peak District produce – from fresh fruit and vegetables to local beer, wine, pastries, cakes and cheeses!
