AboutOakamoor is a pretty village close to Alton Towers, in the Churnet Valley. Its location provides relatively easy access to the Staffordshire Way, Hawksmoor Nature Reserve, Dimmingsdale and the Churnet Valley Way. Ramblers and walkers will find plenty of walks around the village including 'Woods & Ways'. For cyclists there is a track, which runs from Oakamoor all the way to Denstone about 3 miles away.
The River Churnet runs through the village and in years gone by the village was humming to the sound of the great industrial revolution. The area which is now a park and picnic place used to be the site of a great copper factory, the remnants of which can still be seen. There is a marked information trail around the village telling the story of Oakamoor's part in the industrial revolution.
