Just a couple of miles from Ashbourne, Mapleton is a quiet little place hiding a quaint little church of unusual design. The small parish church of St Mary's has with one quite remarkable feature, it is topped by an octagonal dome and lantern, which has led it to be called "Little St. Paul's". There are some interesting old almshouses and across the little bridge in Staffordshire is Okeover Hall, set in its' deer park (not open to the public).
Things to do; Close to the delights of Dovedale and the Manifold Valley some fantastic scenery is close by with Alton Towers is a short drive away. For walkers and cyclists, the Tissington Trail starts nearby and there are cycle hire facilities. The village has a camping and caravan facilities, a pub, tearooms and the Callow Hall Hotel.

Taking the A515 out of Ashbourne towards Buxton, take a sharp left turn at the top of the hill just outside Ashbourne. Continue along this road for about 2 miles.
