Great Longstone

An attractive limestone village set around a pretty little green with an old cross.

The village lies under the ridge of Longstone Edge, 2 miles from Bakewell. It has some charming old cottages along the main street, a handsome Georgian Manor House and a pretty church dating from the13th century. Former industries included lead mining and shoemaking, now it is a quiet residential village along with nearby hamlets of Rowland, Hassop and Little Longstone.

Things to do in Great Longstone:

• There are some excellent routes for walkers and cyclists in and around the village.
• Just beyond Little Longstone is the famous viewpoint at Monsal Head and the Monsal Trail runs past the old station, ¼ of a mile to the south. Numerous paths lead up to the edge where there are superb panoramic views.
• Well Dressings are held annually in both Great and Little Longstone and there are also Flower and Arts Festivals.
• There is a well-stocked village shop, a country house hotel and two pubs, plus inns at Little Longstone and Hassop.
