Respect, Protect, Enjoy Visitor Charter
With rolling dales, dramatic moorland, fantastic footpaths, exciting cycle trails, charming towns and villages and acres of open spaces to enjoy, there’s more than enough of the Peak District and Derbyshire to go around.
We are asking all visitors to Respect, Protect and Enjoy our beautiful area, by following our visitor charter. Follow these simple steps below to help everyone enjoy a slice of the area, safely…
Respect the Peak District & Derbyshire
- Respect local wildlife. Please tread carefully and look out for wildlife that has moved into unexpected places. Please keep dogs on leads and stick to footpaths and bridleways so as not to disturb ground nesting birds and other wildlife.
- Respect our local communities by sticking to the Public Right of Way, parking responsibly, not trespassing on private land and taking your litter with you.
- Respect our business owners, who have been working hard to put measures in place to ensure they can welcome you back with (socially distanced) open arms. Remember this has been a challenging time for them, and show your support where you can.
- Respect any specific guidelines that have been put in place by our friends and partners across the county, by planning ahead before travelling, and checking what facilities are open.
- Respect local landscapes and remember that 'wild camping' (anywhere outside of designated camp sites) is only allowed with landowner permission, and the majority of landowners in the Peak District do not allow this. There's also no wild camping allowed on National Park Authority land or National Trust land. To avoid disappointment, we encourage anyone wanting to camp, to plan ahead and book in at a campsite.
Protect the Peak District & Derbyshire
- Protect yourself and others. Always follow hand washing and social distancing guidance, and follow any specific guidelines in place.
- Protect the landscape by always following the Countryside Code and Peak District Proud guidelines, which set out how visitors can behave safely and responsibly. Follow the hashtag #PeakDistrictProud.
- Protect local areas by leaving the BBQ at home: open fires are NOT permitted in the Peak District National Park as they are a risk to public safety and the wildlife that live here. Also remember, heat reflecting off glass can also spark fires, so please take all glass bottles home with you.
- Protect our towns, villages and rural communities by parking only in designated areas and by disposing of litter responsibly.
Enjoy the Peak District & Derbyshire
- Enjoy getting off the beaten track. We know everyone has their favourite spot in the Peak District and Derbyshire - or maybe their favourite two, or three - but why not seek out some new favourites away from the crowds? See our Time To Discover Somewhere New page for ideas of new things to do. You can check the capacity of car parks in the Peak District National Park using this handy traffic-light system.
- Enjoy supporting our local businesses. There has never been a more important time to support our passionate producers, pubs, restaurants, cafes and farm shops. And with so much fresh, local food on offer, why not make the most of it? See which food and drink businesses are open, or view the takeaway and delivery services on our #SupportLocal page at.
- Enjoy visiting our market towns. Our town centres and high streets are now open again and have preparations and signs in place to encourage social distancing to help you have an enjoyable experience when you visit us. You'll find some fantastic independent shops selling everything from local food and drink, arts and crafts, jewellery and fashion so please support our local businesses. Always look out for external and internal signage and follow the procedures that are put in place for each individual business, as guidance will vary.
- And finally… when you’re out and about, enjoy taking photos of your surroundings and sharing them with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We love to see them – and share them with others!
