Leawood Pump In Steam - Free admission

The almost 175 year old Leawood Pump will be in steam from 12pm to 4:30pm pumping water from the river Derwent into the Cromford Canal on selected dates

2nd July 12pm to 4:30pm
6th Aug 12pm to 4:30pm
27th to 28th Aug 12pm to 4:30pm
17th Sep 12pm to 4:30pm
7th Oct & 8th Oct 12pm to 4:30pm

The steam powered beam engine will be pumping 4 tons of water at each stroke from the river Derwent into the Cromford Canal.

In the boiler house, steam is produced in one of two locomotive type stationary boilers, installed in 1901 in order to drive the engine.

You can walk around the engine house to see the pump in action and go to the top of the building and view the impressive 30 ton beam and wonder how the Victorians got it in!

Find us on the Cromford Canal, 200m South of High Peak Junction. Nearest car park on Lea Road, Cromford DE4 5AA one and a half miles from Cromford. Or park at Cromford Mills and walk just over a mile along the Cromford Canal.
