Chesterfield in Lockdown
An exhibition that unlocks Lockdown in Chesterfield by exploring stories of local people and organisations through art, textile, creative writing, photography and film.
About
6 March to 26 April 2023, open Monday to Saturday 11am to 3pm in the Assembly Rooms on the second floor of the Market Hall.
Join the Chesterfield Museum team for an exhibition that unlocks Lockdown in Chesterfield by exploring stories of local people and organisations through art, textile, creative writing, photography and film.
The Covid-19 pandemic led to the first instance of widescale isolation being used as a measure to prevent the spread of disease in over 200 years and had a profound impact on the global population.
When the first Lockdown happened in 2020, Chesterfield Museum decided to commemorate this difficult time by presenting a community exhibition of works created by local people inspired by ‘Lockdown’ and this is now open to be enjoyed by the public.
Play one of the family games that came out of the attic for the lockdown, have a go at a jigsaw puzzle or try paper weaving. Make your own 'NHS badge' - NHS staff put their picture on a badge to show patients what they looked like behind the face mask and protective gear. Colour in a rainbow, match leaves to a textile tree or make a 'thank you hand'. Use each finger to say thank you to someone who helped during lockdown.
If you lost a loved one during the pandemic, add a personal message, a memory or a comment to our Chesterfield in Lockdown book.
