The Chop House

Windlehill Farm is an 10 acre organic farm set in quiet countryside between Derby and Ashbourne. Our cosy, family friendly, well-equipped, self catering cottage ‘The Chop House’ is open all year.

Our family have farmed here since the 1880s and we are proud of our farming heritage. Though we have retired from active farming, visits to the family dairy farm next door can be arranged. We do still have aracucana hens which lay green eggs.

The Chop House has been carefully converted from the farm corn shed where the animal feed was once chopped and mixed. It features original beams and pleasant views over the garden, duck pond and surrounding countryside.

The Chop House sleeps 6 in 1 twin/double and 2 twin bedrooms. It has a kitchen/dining room and separate living room with a pretty well fenced garden. There is car parking on site.

Well behaved dogs are welcome. We have quiet roads and can offer dog walking across the fields nearby.

The Chop House is an ideal base for visiting the many attractions of the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District, The Potteries The Staffordshire Moorlands and the National Forest.

Ashbourne and Derby are close by, as is Burton on Trent with it’s Museum of Brewing

The National Forest area with the Rosliston Forestry Centre and Conkers which are great for children.

For walkers, Carsington Water, Dovedale, the Tissington Trail and the many paths of the White Peak are an easy drive away.

We are close to the stunning National Trust properties of Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall and Calke Abbey and within easy driving distance of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.

Alton Towers is just 15 miles away along country lanes.
