Not-to-be-missed in New Mills is the Millennium Walkway, a 175-yard aerial walkway spanning a cliffside above the River Goyt and linking to Torrs Riverside Park, the starting point for several walking and cycling routes. New Mills Heritage Centre provides maps and guides for nearby walks including the circular town trail and the iconic Kinder Trespass Trail.
The path through the Torrs is part of the Midshires Way and Derbyshire County Council in partnership with New Mills Town Council and High Peak Borough Council and many private organisations built the award-winning and spectacular Millennium Walkway to make the final connection of the path under the town. Among the avrious accolades, the walkway won top prize in the British Construction Industry Award 2000.
Down a steep slope from the train station you will find the impressive Millennium Walkway. The walkway provides a route through the previously impassable gritstone gorge at Torrs, New Mills which is an area of exceptional natural beauty and unique industrial archaeological heritage.
