Road Directions
From M1 South – Leave M1 at Junction 24 Nottingham and follow signposts for A50 towards Stoke. If it’s looking busy as you approach junction 23A, you can also turn off here and follow signs to A50…. – After about 20 minutes you will come to the first roundabout. Continue straight ahead on A50. After a further ½ mile leave A50 at next exit A515 to Ashbourne. – Follow A515 into Ashbourne one way system and continue on A515 towards Buxton. – Continue along A515 past Tissington and Newhaven. – About 4 miles past Newhaven on A515, turn left onto B5055 signposted to Crowdecote and Longnor. – Continue along this small road down past the Royal Oak pub until you reach the crossroads marked High Needham. Turn right for Earl Sterndale and Wheeldon Trees is the first turning on the left (after ¾ mile there’s a signpost and some trees !)
From M1 North – Leave M1 at Junction 29 (Chesterfield) and follow signposts for A617 to Chesterfield. – In Chesterfield, follow signposts for A619 to Bakewell. – At Bakewell, pass through one-way system until you reach a roundabout with the Rutland Arms Hotel immediately in front of you. Take the first exit and then immediately (and we mean immediately !) turn right onto B5055 (Monyash). – Continue on B5055 through Monyash to the crossroads with A515. – Cross A515 and continue on B5055 signposted to Crowdecote and Longnor. – Continue along this small road down past the Royal Oak pub until you reach the crossroads marked High Needham. Turn right for Earl Sterndale and Wheeldon Trees is the first turning on the left (after ¾ mile there’s a signpost and some trees !)
From M6 South – Leave M6 at Junction 15 toward Stoke-on-Trent/Newcastle/A500. – Merge onto A500 (signs for Stoke-on-Trent/Stone/A34/Uttoxeter/A50) – Go through 1st roundabout and at 2nd roundabout take 4th exit onto A53 towards Leek – Continue on A53 through Leek and towards Buxton – Just after ‘The Winking Man’ pub, turn right following signpost to Longnor – At Longnor, continue straight through village. The road dips down steeply to Crowdecote and then steeply up again with a couple of hairpin bends. Continue until you reach the crossroads. Turn left for Earl Sterndale and Wheeldon Trees is the first turning on the left (after ¾ mile there’s a signpost and some trees !).
From North West, North and North East – Get to Buxton ! – Head South on A515 towards Ashbourne. (N.B. Don’t follow signs showing ‘(A515)’ as this will actually take you out of Buxton on the A6…) – After 3 miles, turn right onto B5053 to Longnor. – Head up and over the hill and enjoy the beautiful view that opens up before you… – As you head down into the valley, ignore the first left fork (signposted Earl Sterndale) and continue round the right-angled bend in the road – About 200 meters after this bend, turn left at crossroads (also signposted Earl Sterndale). – Follow road for about 0.5 miles through village and then turn left as you leave the village (just before village pond on your right). If you are using SatNav, turn left just before the village pond in Earl Sterndale at the brown ‘i’ sign – Wheeldon Trees Farm is the first turning on the right (about 1 mile after you leave the village).
