About
In the heart of the Peak District National Park and surrounded by glorious Derbyshire scenery, Underleigh House has 5 Star Gold Award status (from both the AA and VisitEngland) as a Bed and Breakfast. Converted from a cottage and shippon (longhouse style) built in 1873, it is now the lovely home of Vivienne who are is than happy to share it with her guests.
A genuine welcome and (if required) advice on what to see and where to go, is always on offer. Underleigh’s Hope Valley location, near Edale, is as tranquil as it is stunning and appeals particularly to walkers wishing to explore Losehill, Mam Tor, Win Hill and even Kinder. For others there are the heritage attractions of Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Lyme Park and Hardwick Hall to consider, not forgetting the charms of Castleton (and its caves), Hathersage, Eyam (the 'Plague Village'), Tideswell, Bakewell, and Buxton.
As soon as you enter the stone-flagged breakfast room, with its cosy atmosphere, original beams and communal table, you sense that this is a place where you can relax and enjoy traditional English hospitality. Evident pride is reflected in Underleigh’s memorable breakfast which has achieved both the AA and VisitEngland coveted breakfast awards. Homemade bread, Aga-cooked porridge, granola, muesli, compôtes and preserves, together with locally sourced premium produce, all contribute to a recipe for success. With its comfortable, homely and country house style, the guest lounge offers a spacious area in which to relax and take tea, whilst the colourful garden might serve a similar purpose in the summer. The en suite bedrooms - several with stunning views – are named after local hamlets: Aston, Townhead, Thornhill and Derwent. They are charmingly decorated and well equipped - showing great attention to detail - with three of them having their own sitting rooms for extra privacy.

Map & Directions
Road Directions
Come into the village of Hope on the A6187 (formerly A625) to the Parish Church. Opposite the church (and with the 'Old Hall' pub on the corner), take the road to Edale for about 0.6 mile (past the 'Cheshire Cheese' pub and under bridge) until the de-restriction road sign which marks the end of the 30 mph zone. At this point, take the cul de sac - Lose Hill Lane - to the left of the facing house and continue for 0.3 mile, keeping to the right all the way. Lose Hill Lane is narrow, has some potholes and is also a footpath, so drive carefully! Underleigh is the first property on the right and the entrance to the car park is directly before the house.
Public Transport Directions
For those coming to Underleigh without a car, we will collect from Hope Station which is served by trains from both Manchester and from Sheffield. We can provide all the information needed to enjoy a ‘car free’ stay at Underleigh with details of local dining options, walks from the door, local cycle hire and public transport timetables to reach places of interest in the area.
