About

Thornhill View is a detached country house with spacious garden and parking provided. Set in a central position in the Hope Valley. You will find us on the outskirts of Bamford Village between Hathersage and Hope in the Peak District, Derbyshire,  close to the River Derwent. To the north-east is Bamford Edge, and to the north-west the Ladybower, Derwent and Howden Reservoirs. The Hope Valley is an ideal place for exploring Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Bakewell or for taking relaxing walks and cycle rides. There are many events throughout the year-in mid July there is a Well Dressing Festival, The popular Chatsworth Country Fair at the beginning of September to name a few.

The Upper Derwent Visitor Centre is just 500 metres from the Derwent Dam nearby and acts as a focus for the two million walkers, cyclists and tourists that make the journey into this beautiful valley each year. Cycle hire, refreshments, and gift shop. Ladybower Fishery on Ladybower reservoir welcome fly-fishing, rowing boats can also be hired for fishing.

Visit Castleton, a short drive away with the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnats Pass and the Peak District's breathtaking limestone and gritstone landscapes. See the Norman ruins of English Heritage Peveril Castle, completed in 1086 for William Peverel, a favoured knight of William the Conqueror. Castleton is the only place in the world where the semi-precious stone Blue John, unique to the Peak District and Derbyshire, can be found. Some of the finest examples are sold at Treak Cliff Cavern, where you can also explore a fairytale underground world of stalactite and stalagmites.  Castleton's other show caves, Peak Cavern is used for special events, including Christmas carol concerts. Speedwell Cavern offers an underground boat ride to the eerie 'Bottomless Pit', while Blue John Cavern, opposite Mam Tor, is the deepest of the caves and also contains examples of Blue John. You can buy jewellery crafted from Blue John in the village. Enjoy numerous cafés, tea rooms and pubs before heading off to tackle the Great Ridge Walk, one of the finest routes of its kind in the country.

At Thornhill, each room is decorated to a high standard with en-suite facilities. Tea/coffee making facilities are available as is a colour TV and a fridge in each room. A delicious full English breakfast is served in the friendly and cosy dining room. Vegetarian and special diets are catered for by prior arrangement.

We look forward to welcoming you!
