AboutRoaches Hall for 30 guests, is situated in the most outstanding of locations. Nestled under the famous rocks of The Roaches between Buxton and Leek, it is ideally situated for anyone wanting a ‘get away from it all’ self-catering location, yet in the heart of England. Roaches Hall is reached over a winding driveway through the fields and woods under the famous Hen Cloud rocks. To quote from the Sunday Times “The Roaches themselves were spectacular. It was as if we’d wandered onto a film set from an Arthurian epic. Every turn seemed to reveal a perfectly composed landscape of trees, crags and velvet-mossed rocks, with no trace of the modern world in sight.” The Daily Telegraph put The Roaches as number 5 in its top 10 walks in the UK!
Roaches Hall was once the hunting abode of Sir Philip Brocklehurst. Sir Philip’s brother, Henry Courtney lived in the house and amassed a small zoo in the grounds including yaks, llamas, deer and wallabies. These later roamed freely over the Roaches before dying out in more recent years.

Map & Directions
Firstly reach Leek in Staffordshire Moorlands (either via M1 junction 23, then take the A50 towards Stoke and Uttoxeter and the A515 to Ashbourne before picking up the A523 towards Leek, and Manchester). Alternatively take the M6 to junction 15 and take the A500 through Stoke before turning onto the A53 to Leek.
From Leek follow the A53 towards Buxton for about 3 miles. You will pass a large pub called the Three Horseshoes and then start climbing a hill (at this point you will see The Roaches climbing rocks ahead on your left). A little further on take a left turn in Upper Hulme. After 2-300 m take the first left (there may be a sign here to The Potting Shed), continuing through the industrial hamlet. Stay on this road for approx ¾ mile. Approximately 200m past the Roaches Tea Room turn right over the cattle grid. Drive up the gravel lane towards and around the rocks. Roaches Hall is at the end of this lane.
