About
As of 4th July we will be re-opening for business. We would ask that guests do not book more than 2 months in advance due to current uncertainties. We will be adding a 3 day buffer before and after each booking to allow time for cleaning so we are currently not offering stays of less than 6 nights.
Due to the new enhanced cleaning regime, and for guests comfort and ease of movement around the cottages, we are not offering the sofa-bed facilities for the time being. Therefore each cottage currently sleeps 4 in bedrooms, not living spaces. We are currently unable to provide a range of books or games for your entertainment, so please bring your own.
Remote check-in available via keysafe.
Saddler's Cottage: A curiously shaped cottage, full of character with beamed ceilings and original windows, carefully planned and equipped to make a comfortable holiday home. The well equipped dining kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, range cooker and microwave oven, has an extending dining table which will seat 6 with elbow room. The sitting room has a comfortable sofa and armchair, plus a Futon sofa bed around the log burning stove to warm your toes, and a Freeview TV/DVD. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, a very qwirky walk-in wardrobe, bedside drawers and a vintage oak dressing table. Bedroom 2 has twin single beds, each with a bedside chest of drawers and a 3 level touch lamp ideal for night lighting, on the lowest setting, for small children. A vintage oak wardrobe and drawers complete the room. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, an electric shaver point, basin and wc and features a pretty leaded glass window over the stairs whilst getting natural light from the velux window.
Fox Lodge: A stone built Victorian end-terraced cottage with original features and slightly wonky floors! This spacious 2 bedroomed cottage is just as carefully planned and equipped as Saddler's Cottage which is just 5 minutes walk away. The recently installed kitchen has a dishwasher, washer/dryer, electric cooker with fan oven, microwave oven and fridge/freezer, plus a breakfast bar with a couple of high stools. The open plan dining/living space has a sitting area with 2 good sized sofas and the TV/DVD player arranged around the open hearth. The dining area has a table for up to 6 and beyond there is another seating area with a sofa which opens out into a compact sofa-bed (4'5" x 5'11"). Upstairs the bathroom is big enough to dance in! It has a corner bath and a seperate large shower cubicle, plus wc and wash basin. The front bedroom has a king-size wooden bed with bedside cabinets either side and an old oak gentleman's valet-style wardrobe. The second bedroom has a double bed with bedside cabinets eother side, a triple wardrobe and dressing table. To the rear of the cottage is a gated courtyard with a decking area, partly covered by a vine smoothered pergola. Patio furniture is provided.
Both cottages have GCH. Gas and electricity are included in the price. All bedlinen and towels provided. A travel cot and a highchair are available on a first come first served basis, please request at time of booking. The cot will fit in either bedroom of both cottages. Cot bedding NOT provided. We welcome 2 well behaved dogs at Fox Lodge only.
Tea, coffee, sugar and milk are all provided on your arrival.
Saddler's Cottage is close to the centre of the historic market town of Wirksworth, positioned on a sleepy back street. The most likely noise disturbance is the church bells on Sunday morning, from the nearby parish church of St Mary's, a large and ancient church of architectural interest. Fox Lodge is a little further out of town on the road towards Cromford, but within easy walking distance of the town centre.
Wirksworth has virtually no "high street names" (the exception being the Co-op, a new fangled arrival), the majority of businesses being individual small concerns giving the town real character. Shops, ATM's, Pubs and Restaurants are all just a short walk from the cottages and offer hours of gentle browsing. Wirksworth Heritage Centre tells the story of the town. The local Leisure Centre boasts an indoor climbing wall amongst its' facilities. The National Stone Centre is based in the town, the High Peak Trail runs across the northern edge of the town heading up to Middleton Top Engine House and Cycle Hire, then onwards for 17 miles deep into the Peak District. Carsington Water is less than 10 mins drive with all it's varied leisure facilities: walking, cycling (hire available), sailing, wind-surfing and birdwatching. Ecclesbourne Valley Heritage Railway's Wirksworth station is just round the corner from Saddler's Cottage.
