About

Our two historic, large luxury Derbyshire country cottages, can each sleep from 12 to 16 guests. These beautiful,  5 and 6 bedroom Peak District character cottages each have cosy wood burning stoves, oak beams throughout, revealed stone and brick walls giving a cosy ambience and charm that is a delight. 
Both are located in peaceful scenic landscapes, with large, private and beautifully stocked landscaped gardens in which to relax or play. They are surrounded by lush pastureland and trees having wonderful views and are a haven for birds and wildlife. Hot tubs are available  at both cottages and  there is a sauna and full sized snooker table avialable at Billy’s Bothy. Please enquire for arrangements on these.  The cottages are not on the same site and are 5 miles apart, giving complete privacy for each of our guests.

Both cottages have well equipped farmhouse style kitchens with separate lounge and dining rooms. Fabulous cottages fitted and furnished to an exceptional standard. Billy's Bothy has all en suite bathrooms, Hillside Croft has 1 en suite and 1 master bathroom with bath and shower, also 3 WC's.

Both cottages are suitable for large groups, families or hen parties wanting to visit Derbyshire and the Peak District or for that special occasion, catering and pampering are available by arrangement to make your stay special

Our luxury  holiday cottages are within comfortable distance to Carsington Water, Alton Towers, Chatsworth House , Kedleston , Haddon, Hardwick and Sudbury Halls and the historic towns of Ashbourne,  Wirksworth, Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton and central to all the many attractions and activities located in Derbyshire. These include Casrleton Caves, Heights of Abraham Cable Cars, Steam Train, Tramway and mining museums and the Unesco Derwent Hertige trail. Fot those wanting activities Carsington Water, Wildpark Leisure, The Yeaveley Estate are nearby. .

Billy's Bothy is suitable for small private corporate events, a projector and equipment  and hearing device is available. Should you wish to bring your horse then grazing is available at both cottages, prices on application. Sorry we are no pets.

Road Directions

The village of Hulland Ward is located on the A517 road which links the towns of Belper and Ashbourne. Belper to Ashbourne is 11 miles and Hulland Ward is approx half way between the two of them. From Ashbourne take the A517 for 5 miles until you come into the village of Hulland Ward, continue through the village past the garage and spa shop which will be on your right. You will then see the Black Horse Public House in front of you situated on a staggered crossroads, turn left here just before the pub into Moss Lane. Carry on down Moss Lane for approximately 1/3rd of a mile until you see a lightly wooded area on your right, the road then veers gently to the left and then round an upwards sloping right hand bend. After about 50 foot the road bends sharply to the left. Between these two bends on the right hand side is a red brick farmhouse called Hillside Farm, and The Old Dairy is next to it. In front of these two private residences is a straight drive. Looking down it you will see two stone gateposts with lights on the top. This is the entrance to Hillside Croft-if you come to a small triangular island in the road then you have gone past the cottage. There is a payphone at the cottage should some of your party need to contact you-this is 01335 370909.

Public Transport Directions

Hillside Croft has a public bus service available  a 10 minute walk from the cottage located on the road between Belper and Ashbourne. There is no public transport to Billys Bothy although just a mile from Ashbourne  and a taxi or car is recommended .

 The nearest main railway station is Derby Railway Station, it is also possible to get a train to Belper, from there a taxi is recommended. Buses are available from Derby Railway Station to Belper  and from Belper to Hulland Ward which is  a 10 minute walk to Hillside Croft.  Buses also go from the railway station to Ashbourne.

 The nearest Airport is East Midlands, folloewed by Birmimgham then Manchester,.
