Beechenhill Farm Cottages

About

Beechenhill Farm is a family run Organic Dairy Farm at the heart of the beautiful White Peak, beside the spectacular Dovedale Gorge and above the pretty village of Ilam.

We have 3 beautiful self catering cottages that have cosy wood burners and all the mod-cons that you need to have a fantastic holiday.

If you want a romantic cottage for two we can accommodate you in either Beechenhill Cottage or The Old Wash House.  Or if there are more of you, you can stay in our spacious comfortable cottage for six, our wheelchair accessible Cottage by the Pond.  Alternatively, book the whole farm for a reunion or family get together of up to 12 people.

We're passionate about our place and enabling you to enjoy it. We have a Swedish style hot tub and wood fired barrel sauna (available at extra cost), grass sledges and miles of walks from the door.

Welcome....

People have lived and farmed at Beechenhill since earliest times, there is a prehistoric farmstead on our lower fields. There is a feeling of history and continuity here and we delight in sharing our home with our guests. We want to look after our place and our guests in a sustainable way so we can all enjoy Beechenhill into the future.

Relax...

Just come and relax, lie in the long organic grass in our meadows or over-sleep in the cottages. Wake up to the sight of our cows ambling past the window or the scent of fresh bread and sizzling local bacon.

Things To Do…

Run about, walk your legs off or amble gently to recharge your batteries in the heart of the Peak District National Park, there are lots of walks from the door. You can even try our Swedish hot tub under the stars:

The Simple Hot tub Elemental Experience:
An afternoon (4hrs) or evening (4hrs finishing by 11pm)
Hot tub seats up to 6 people, min age 14
We light the cave stove, the hot tub and heat the water, we supply a jug of fresh water
You bring your own towels, drinks.
£100 for 2 people plus £5 per extra person, for residents at Beechenhill Farm

The Luxury Hot tub Elemental Experience:
Sitting by the stove in Beechenhill's cave
An afternoon (4hrs) or evening (4hrs finishing by 11pm)
Hot tub seats up to 6 people, min age 14
We light the cave stove, the tub and heat the water, we supply a jug of fresh water
We supply towels and fluffy white dressing gowns
We supply refreshments; usually cava and chocolates or hot chocolate and cakes, then at Christmas and New Year mulled wine and home made mince pies.
£125 for 2 people plus £10 per extra person, for residents at Beechenhill Farm

We are close to loads of brilliant attractions:

  • Dovedale, a beautiful gorge with stepping stones, you can reach it by foot from the farm.
  • Chatsworth House, a beautifully maintained stately home, gardens, farm and adventure playground.
  • Haddon Hall, a medieval stately home which lay unspoiled for years, a real glimpse into the past.
  • Manifold Valley, Tissington Trail and Monsal Trail, walk, cycle or horseride along these old railway lines to see a different side of the Peak District.
  • Alton Towers, the big theme park is only 20 minutes’ drive away.
  • Peak Wildlife Park, see wallabies, otters, zebra, penguins, meerkats then enjoy a freshly made pizza before jumping on the bouncy castle or tiring out the children in the indoor soft play.
  • Coombes Valley RSPB Nature Reserve with a brilliant natural trail for families.

How to get here...

By bike, by electric car, by train to Derby or Buxton, by bus to Ashbourne, we can collect you from the bus station.

What to Bring....

Bring your walking boots, your maps, sunglasses and rain coats! Bring your bikes (we can store them safely), bring your shorts, woolies, swimming costumes DVDs and lots of books... You can also bring your electric car as we have a free electric car charging unit for our guests.

We have free wifi in all the accommodation and in the Haybarn, so you can bring your smart phone on holiday - or we can turn it off if you want complete peace.

Because our cottages are all virtually allergy free, we are sorry but it is not possible to accommodate pets.

Old Wash House4from £360.00 to £530.00 per unit per weekA lovely cottage for two people situated in the guest wing of our traditional limestone farmhouse. There may be a second room for two available by arrangement, please ask. The Old Wash House is special! It can be booked on its own and also in conjunction with our other cottages at Beechenhill Farm. From March to November its changeover days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so we offer three day weekends and two day and four week day breaks, as well as weeks, 10 days and more. It is a supremely flexible cottage. From November to March breaks are completely flexible with a two nights minimum. For two people or by special arrangement it may be possible to have an extra en-suite bedroom for two in addition. Through the Old Wash House Door You have a small entrance hall with hanging space for coats, a cosy sitting room with log stove, books (and a big flat telly if you need it). This leads to a warm and spacious kitchen-dining room. The light and comfortable kitchen dining room, with its glass roof used to be the old barrel ceilinged wash house with an old copper for heating the water. Now it has a small, simple but well equipped kitchen and a big table where you can relax and watch the cows go to and fro to milking. The back door, leads up old stone steps to a tiny patio area with garden furniture, but, of course you can also enjoy the big country garden at the front of the house too. King size bed in The Old Wash House Really Comfortable Bed Our first two guests wanted to buy the mattress! All our beds have beautifully laundered Egyptian cotton linen with quilts (or blankets if you prefer), so you can over-sleep in comfort. We are a bit fussy about pillows when we go away, so have provided several different types from which you can choose, including memory foam pillows

*As a guide, prices are per room per night for hotels, guest houses, B&Bs and serviced apartments and per week for self-catering accommodation.

Note: Prices are a guide only and may change on a daily basis.

Map & Directions

Road Directions

Take the A515, north from Ashbourne towards Buxton, after 1 mile turn left (signposted 'Ilam Thorpe Dovedale'). Continue 5 miles to Ilam, at the Monument junction turn right, continue 1 mile up steep hill. When hill levels out on top, Beechenhill Farm is first on left. The farm name is in the stone wall.

If you are using a Sat Nav put in 'Ilam Moor Lane'.

If you use our postcode DE62BD, it stretches for about a mile, so when your Sat Nav tells you that you have reached your destination (there is a sign on the right) keep going for another half a mile and we are the next farm drive on the left (if you are travelling in a northerly direction).

Public Transport Directions

Although public transport is very limited and a car is fairly essential, we can arrange to collect you from Ashbourne bus station (7 miles).  The nearest main line railway station is in Derby (18 miles).

Staffordshire Moorlands Connect is a local bus service covering the area between Flash, Hartington, Longnor, Waterhouses, Warslow and Leek. You can order the bus by telephone: 01335 342951
