The small village of Pentrich near Ripley is famous for the Pentrich Revolution which took place on 9 June 1817. It is thought Pentrich was already settled during the Roman occupation and that the name Pentrich has Celtic origins. The Pentrich Revolution Trail is marked by a series of plaques located in and around the village. Leave M1 at Junction 28 follow A38 to Derby, turn off the A38 at Alfreton follow signs for Swanwick at the traffic lights turn left and follow the signs for Pentrich.
