Elmton Well Dressing under Construction at Elmton
Find out more about this ancient Derbyshire custom by watching the well dressers working on the dressing. A working drawing is scaled to full size on tracing paper. The outline is transferred to the clay by pricking through the paper. The design is outlined in wool then the detail filled in with petals and other natural materials.

From North/South
Leave M1 at junction 30 and follow A616 through Clowne to Creswell. Go under railway bridge and take 2nd right turn (Elmton Road). Follow signposts to village which has just one road through it.
From East
Follow A617 to junction with M1 motorway and take 4th exit (M1 north). Leave M1 at junction 30, then follow route from North/South.
From West
Follow A619 into Chesterfield. At traffic light controlled roundabout (Lidl on left) select middle lane and take 3rd exit. Keep in left lane and at traffic lights go straight on. When carriageway divides select right lane and, at next roundabout take 3rd exit. At next roundabout (traffic light controlled) select left lane and take 2nd exit (A617). In approx 4 miles reach M1 motorway Junction roundabout and take 1st exit onto motorway (M1 North). Leave M1 at next junction (30) then follow route from North/South.
