MICHELA GRIFFITH

Michéla has always enjoyed being behind the camera, rather than in front, and quickly developed an affinity for image making as a teenager. She has persisted with film, moving from 35mm to panoramic and medium format, though enjoying the flexibility that digital imaging offers.
By training she is a landscape architect, but has increasingly found photography to be the perfect outlet for her creativity. Many of the images on her website are local to her home near the Staffordshire-Derbyshire border and showcase the variety of the scenery that can be found in the Upper Dove and Manifold Valleys. Beyond the limestone plateau of the White Peak and the dissecting Derbyshire Dales lie some of the few actual ‘peaks’ and a dramatic transition from limestone back to gritstone as you cross the River Dove and enter the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The images reflect her preference to explore small areas on foot and to make repeat visits. “In between the broader views are distillations of form, pattern, texture and light. These 'personal' landscapes are often the compositions that give me most satisfaction.”
