    Details

In this year when our athletes and sportsmen and women will be looking for victories in The Commonwealth Games, the Tour de France and the Football World Cup, this year’s Procession of Witness takes another kind of victory as its theme: ‘Victory with Jesus’.

The first float will represent Christ’s victory over sin and death by depicting the resurrection and subsequent floats will depict other ‘victories’ won through the power of Jesus Christ over the centuries since the Christian church has been established. The floats will celebrate well known biblical scenes and more recent achievements.

The Procession will include over thirty five local churches and other Christian organisations, marching bands, tableaux and Christian clowns. At 9.45 am there will be a short Act of Worship from the Town Hall steps in the presence of The Mayor of Chesterfield and then The Mayor and Mayoress will lead the Procession as it sets off along Rose Hill and into the town at about 10.05 am.

After the Procession, from about 11 am until midday, there will be refreshments available in The Rose Hill United Reformed Church as well as Face painting outside and music from Ashover Band.

Some of the churches on the west of the town form a Brampton Procession which leaves the junction of Old Road and Chatsworth Road at 9.15 am and proceeds to meet the main gathering in Chesterfield in time for the Act of Worship. Nearly one thousand people will take part in this year’s Procession.
