Accommodation operators that have been inspected under the NAS demonstrate that they take the issue of providing accurate information about their facilities seriously. The assessment is often used as a precursor to making changes to the accommodation to make it more accessible.

The NAS is a means of marketing accommodation that has been independently assessed and identifies the level of accessibility for people who, for example, use a wheelchair or have a walking disability, are blind or partially sighted, or have a mild to profound hearing loss.

The Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service (VAQAS) can help visitor attractions and is able to provide further information available for attractions entering the scheme. An initial advice document will be available from May 2007 on the VAQAS website.
