Welcome to the Border Country, where the town meets the countryside, where the
Peak District meets Robin Hood Country and where tracks and trails lead you through
sleepy villages, across meadows and moorland, and into rippling river valleys.
A visit would not be complete without calling at the historic market town of
Chesterfield to see the renowned ‘Crooked Spire’ of St Mary and All Saints Church. Browse around the town’s open air market – one of the biggest of its kind
in the country – or visit the Thursday Flea market. Who knows, you might even
find a priceless antique in disguise!
Admire the Elizabethan grandeur and countless windows of Hardwick Hall, explore imposing Bolsover Castle with its commanding hilltop position, and discover the Italianate gardens and
woodland trails around Renishaw Hall.
Head into the countryside and find pretty towns and villages including Ashover,
English Village of the Year 2005, or Old Brampton, where the church clock counts
63 minutes to the hour! Pick up waymarked tracks and trails, such as the Five Pits trail, which follows the old colliery railway lines, or the network of paths that
circle through the bluebell woods around Linacre Reservoir.
Bolsover CastleAfter exploring the region, take your pick from cosy bed and breakfasts to luxury
hotels - the Historic Border Country has a complete range of accommodation to
suit every budget.
