Millthorpe (nr Holmesfield)Well Dressing at Millthorpe
This ancient custom is only found in Derbyshire and is the art of decorating springs and wells with pictures made from natural materials. At Millthorpe, there is one well dressing on show and the well has been dressed since 1979.

From North/South
Leave M1 motorway at Junction 29 and take A617 to Chesterfield (approx 4 miles). At traffic light controlled roundabout select middle lane and take 3rd exit. At next roundabout select right lane and take 2nd exit. Keep in right hand lane and go straight on through traffic lights and round 'Crooked Spire' Church. Select right hand lane. At traffic lights go straight on. Keep to right hand lane as approach large roundabout with car park in middle. Follow signs to Sheffield round roundabout. At mini roundabout take 1st exit (B6051). Follow road to Barlow (approx 3 miles). Continue through Barlow village into Millthorpe (approx 1½ miles).
From East
Follow A617 to junction with M1 motorway. Then follow route from North/South.
From West
Follow A619 to Chesterfield. At traffic light controlled roundabout (Lidl on left) select middle lane and take 2nd exit, turning left into Rutland Road. Select right hand lane and turn right at traffic lights. Follow road straight on through all traffic lights. At roundabout select left lane and take 2nd exit passing multi storey car park on left. At mini roundabout take 1st exit (B6051), then follow directions from North/South.
Accessible by Public Transport : 5 miles (8.0 kms) from Chesterfield station
