
The Peak District and Derbyshire is located at the heart of the UK and is easy to reach from all areas of the country – the region also has one of the best rural public transport networks in Britain, with frequent buses or trains from neighbouring towns, cities and airports.

By Air
The 199 Skylink bus runs daily between Manchester Airport and Buxton, from 3am until 11pm (usually twice or three times an hour but exact times vary so please consult the timetable for details). The service also calls at a number of towns and villages in the Peak District.
A half-hourly bus service, the 199 Skylink, runs day and night from East Midlands Airport into Derby city and there are regular train and bus services from the city into the Peak District. Visit the Trent Barton website for the 199 Skylink timetable.

By Train
Derby and the cities surrounding the Peak District & Derbyshire all have major train stations that make it easy for the onward journey into the Peak District. Options include:
• The Hope Valley Line between Manchester and Sheffield, stopping on the way at villages in the Derwent, Hope and Edale valleys
• The Derwent Valley Line from Derby to Matlock
• The Manchester to Buxton Line
• The Manchester to Glossop Line

By Bus and Coach

There are frequent links from neighbouring towns and cities into the Peak District, the most popular being the frequent Transpeak and Trent Barton bus services.
National Express coach 440 between London and Manchester travels through the Peak District, stopping at Derby, Belper, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell and Buxton. The low cost inter-city bus service Megabus operates services to Sheffield and Manchester, where local buses or trains can be caught into the Peak District and Derbyshire
By Car
From the South East – M1, leave at junction 25 and take the A52 to Derby where you can pick up the A6 heading north through Duffield and Belper, or stay on the A52 to Ashbourne. Alternatively, leave the M1 at junction 28, take the A38 south to Alfreton and pick up the A615 from Alfreton to Matlock.
From the North East – M1, leave at junction 33, through Sheffield city centre to pick up either the A57 (Snake Pass) or the A625. Alternatively, leave the M1 at junction 30 or 29 and follow the A619 from Chesterfield (to Baslow) or the A632 (to Matlock).
From the South West – M5, M42, A42, M1 then follow directions as described above when approaching from the South East. Alternatively take the M6 round Birmingham, exit at junction 6 and take the A38 past Lichfield to Derby. From there pick up the A52 for Ashbourne or the A6 for Matlock. You could also travel further north on the M6 and cut across via Congleton or Macclesfield to Buxton.
