A breath of fresh air - Peak Photography Competition

The aim of the Peak Photography Competition is to inspire creative thinking about our day-to-day surroundings. It was begun by Buxton Festival, the Peak District’s largest arts event, in 2006. The competition attracts superb work: over the years entries have included beautiful scenes of the local area as well as exciting images from across the globe.

In 2010 the competition is growing thanks to a new partnership with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire.  Under its new title – Peak Photography Competition – the contest now has a professional panel of judges led by Ashley Franklin, ARPS, ABPPA and a raft of excellent prizes:

1st : a £135 voucher towards a photography course at Simon Watkinson Photo Training, plus four nights bed and breakfast at the picturesque Rivendale, Alsop-en-le-Dale

2nd : a pair of Hanwag Cheyenne GTX walking boots and a Going Digital Photography Workshop voucher

3rd : National Trust vouchers for two people to visit to two of their properties

Plus three winners and two runners up will be entitled to free membership at Derby City Camera Club until December 2010. Many thanks to members of Derby City Camera Club for their expertise and support in the planning of this competition.

Fifteen short-listed images will be displayed in Buxton’s stunning Devonshire Dome during the Festival in July. The photographs will be hung alongside poems from the Buxton Poetry Competition. The exhibition will be open to Festival audiences and the public.

2010 also offers greater media coverage for entrants, including a presence on the Visit Peak District website.
The theme for 2010 is ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’.  Interpret this as creatively as you choose! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter.
