GlossopNestled on the north western edge of the Peak District, Glossop is a town with a rich heritage. Romans first settled here in 80AD and in 1157 the parish of Glossop was established in the area now known as Old Glossop. The town centre of Glossop as it is today didn't emerge until the 19th Century when the abundant supply of fast flowing water ensured Glossop became an important centre of the cotton industry and the population expanded rapidly.
The town retains many of its historical features. Take a stroll around Old Glossop with its picturesque stone cottages and medieval market cross or pack a picnic and head to Manor Park, originally the grounds to the Manor House of the Duke of Norfolk.
Glossop is the perfect location for exploring the Dark Peak. Surrounded by hills and high moors it has plenty to offer those wanting to get out and about, whether it's vigorous hike across the rugged moorland of Bleaklow or Black hill or a family picnic beside the reservoirs of the Longdendale Valley.
There's a wealth of culture and creativity too, Glossop has been steadily developing a reputation as one of the regions best live music locations and its rich selection of live performances, concerts and musical events make Glossop a truly dynamic and vibrant town.
With an exceptional number of independent shops Glossop's high street has plenty of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. From specialist books, designer clothing and original artwork you are sure to find something special. Glossop is also home to a number of award winning local producers offering quality meats, puddings and beers all available on the High Street.
