ChesterfieldChesterfield

Queen's Park, Chesterfield  Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

A historic market town famous for the Crooked Spire Church of Saint Mary and All Saints. Markets are held every Monday, Friday and Saturday with an flea market every Thursday and a farmers' market on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

Markets have been held in Chesterfield since at least 1165 when the Sheriff of Derbyshire recorded an amount of £1 2s 7d from the market at Chesterfield, but the town's Market Charter wasn't granted until 1204. Today the market has grown to be one of the biggest in the country and, every year, hosts events that have guaranteed it a place at the heart of Chesterfield.

Investigate the town's past at the Chesterfield Museum and Art Gallery, which trace's the town's history from the day the Romans marched up Ryknield Street and built a fort, through the Industrial Revolution and the arrival of the railways (which brought George Stephenson to Chesterfield) right up to the present day. Or pick up a Town Trail from the Visitor Information Centre and discover some of the less well known but equally interesting places of interest in the town centre, such as Secker's House and number 2 St Mary's Gate.

Chesterfield also has a theatre, a concert and exhibition centre and a 10 screen cinema, as well as a sports centre with 3 swimming pools, squash courts and gym. and a park with a miniature train and one of the loveliest cricket grounds in the country, all in the town centre.

A visit to Chesterfield gives you so many options, from climbing the Tower of the 'Crooked Spire' to browsing the Market, from taking a walk alongside the Canal to delving into the town's past, and from an evening at the theatre to a real ale pint in one of the local pubs. But don't take our word for it - come along and visit for yourself!
