The quiet village of Waingroves once had a hostel for shelter to the Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem and Waingroves Hall still carries a carved stone of their Order. Waingroves Wood is on the site of the former Waingroves Colliery. The objectives are to restore the native flora, mainly oak and ash, to encourage a wide selection of wildlife.
