Details

The Old Smithy which dates back to the 17th Century is situated in the peaceful village of Curbar and is ideally located to enjoy the beautiful scenery and picturesque historic villages of the Derbyshire Peak District. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are nearby.

This area of Derbyshire is a ramblers paradise with Curbar/Froggatt/Baslow Edges on the doorstep and the Derwent Valley, Monsal Dale and Trail and the rugged High Peak close by. Cycling, horse riding and adventure sports are also readily available in the area and the local terrain is ideal for mountain biking.

We offer you a stay in the Horseshoe Annex which combines friendly hospitality and privacy. The annex is a real gem which has recently been renovated to a high standard. It provides guests with accommodation consisting of an entrance hall which leads you to a top quality shower room with a large shower cubicle. A staircase takes you to a comfortable and well equipped double bedroom.

Traditional cooked breakfast or lighter versions are available from 7.30-9.00am and are served in The Old Smithy House. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants in the area. Some are within walking distance.

    “Perfect”

I stayed at the Old Smithy B&B with my husband during our weekend visit to the peak district. It's not an average B&B. It felt like having our own small private cottage! It was so perfect and private. Its extremely comfortable and well designed. There is a very good shower down stairs and few steps takes you to a very comfortable bedroom.
Very good value for money, I think its worth more than £75/night!

The owners were very friendly and helpful. They made a very nice breakfast in the morning.

Its in a perfect location for exploring a beautiful part of the peak district. We had an amazing time there.

Take the turning for Curbar off the A623 at the southern edge of Calver Village. Go into Curbar Lane directly opposite The Bridge Inn Pub and with the church on your right. Climb Curbar lane for 350m and then take a sharp left turn into Pinfold Hill. The Old Smithy is the 2nd house on the right.

The nearest major railway station is Chesterfield and buses run from Chesterfield with a stop at the bottom of Curbar Hill. There is also a train station at Grindleford but with no connecting buses.
