Mickleover is the most westerly village of the City of Derby. Mickleover lay on the Ilkeston to Egginton section of the Great Northern Railway built in 1876 it was in operation until it was closed in 1968. Today the route is a cycle trail forming part of the National Cycle Network route 54. Records of the settlement that became the village of Mickleover (Mikel Urfa) go back to Saxon times.
