SheldonAn attractive little limestone village in the spectacular scenery of the White Peak.
A classic limestone hill village built along a single broad, grassy, street, there are some pretty old farms and cottages here. Sheldon developed around agriculture and lead mining and is very peaceful little place now.
Things to do; Half a mile from the village is the well-restored Magpie Mine, one of the finest preserved lead mines in the country, the site is open to visitors throughout the year, where the old winding house, chimney and other relics can be seen. There are good walking routes from the village, which has a good pub but no other visitor facilities. See Ashford in the Water and Monyash.
