Details

Sarah and Paul have lovingly restored the old milking parlour in the parish of Gratton just a stones throw from Chatsworth, Bakewell and Haddon Hall.
Restored to a high standard in 2014 The Barn has underfloor heating, generous room sizes and shared lounge and kitchen areas. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare light snacks and store picnic treats.
Unlike most B&Bs the barn is completely separate to the house so guests can come and go as they please. Its just like a hotel but there's no room service!
Breakfast is all locally and ethically sourced with our free range eggs when available. Breakfast is served at a large table with guests often chatting most of the morning.

The grounds are home to Pekin Bantams hens and ducks and a pair of peacocks-all very tame and can be hand fed.
Micro pigs Spider and Blossom live in the stables and love fruit and veg scraps.
There's outdoor seating and a fenced area for dogs where you can enjoy the sunset, or walk to Youlgrave Elton or Winster and enjoy an evening drink or meal.
As keen walkers and bikers the options from the house are endless and there's plenty of room to store bikes and we are mentioned in the"White peak Mountain Biking" guide.

Situated down a quiet single track, you find the Hamlet of Gratton with it's dale a site of special scientific interest where the River Bradford originates, not to mention the brown hares, birds, owls wild flowers and rare orchids-a little bit of paradise!

“Beautiful property and in a great location”

Pretty much only positive things to say about the property, the facilities and the owners, both in terms of welcome and breakfast. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Everything was spotless and the availability of a large and comfortable lounge and kitchen gave us plenty of choice of how to relax. Only downside was that the remoteness of the location meant that the roads to it weren't the best and access to the property in the car was a little tight.

Catch the 172 Hulleys Bus from Matlock or Bakewell and ask for Elton.
When in Elton get off the bus at the church, turn right and head along the road away from the village.
After 5 minutes the road becomes as country lane and there is a sign post towards Gratton. Follow Gratton Lane down the hill, after a few minutes you will arrive at a small gathering of houses and eventually a phone box. The phone box is at the end of our drive and Dale End House has a sign outside advertising accommodation.
