ThorpeThorpe

Literally at the gateway to Dovedale, this appealing little village is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in England.

Close to the junction of the beautiful rivers Dove and Manifold, it was originally a group of farms and isolated cottages around the tiny church of St Leonard, with its' sturdy little tower. The road through it can be busy at times in the height of the tourist season when visitors are drawn to Dovedale.

Things to do; A good setting off point for some classic walking routes, a car park managed by the National Trust is just beyond the village close to the start of Dovedale and the nearby conical hill of Thorpe Cloud. The Tissington Trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders passes close by, where there are parking and picnic facilities. There are no shops in the village, which does have hotels and pubs nearby. For other facilities see Ashbourne.
