Details

Once the home of Jedediah Strutt, who invented the 'Derby Rib' machine and built the first Belper cotton mills. Newton was once a coal mining area, but the local collieries closed in the 1930s.

From North/South
Leave M1 motorway at junction 28 and take A38 towards Mansfield. Leave by 2nd slip road (approx ½ mile) towards East Midlands Designer Outlet. At roundabout at top of slip road take 2nd exit into village of Hilcote. Follow road through built up factory area, then turn left 200 yards past saddlery shop. Continue to follow road for approx 1 mile into village of Blackwell and, at T junction turn right (Blackwell Hotel). Follow road up hill into Newton (approx ¼ mile).

From East
Leave Mansfield on A38 heading for M1 motorway. Approx ½ mile from the M1/A38 junction take a left turn at East Midlands Designer Outlet. If miss this turn, go on to M1/A38 roundabout and follow directions as above. From Designer Outlet take 2nd exit, go up to 2nd roundabout and take 2nd exit, then follow route from North/South.

From West
Follow A38 from Derby to junction with M1 motorway. At roundabout take 3rd exit (A38 towards Mansfield). Leave by 2nd slip road towards East Midlands Designer Outlet, then follow directions from North/South.
